Running Windows Explorer
Windows Explorer is an essential tool for finding, copying, loading, renaming and deleting files and folders. You will find it by clicking the Start button on the task bar (at the bottom of the screen) then select Programs and Accesories. Since menu items can be moved around you may fins it elsewhere, usually on the first list of programs. It is there somewhere. NOTE: Filenames have extensions thus: MYFILE.TXT. The extension usually indicates the type of file it is, thus TXT means a text file. File extension can be hidden, but you can change this. In Windows Exporer, select Tools on the menu bar, then Folder Options. Click the View Tab. A little way down the checklist you will see "Hide extensions for known file types". Make sure it is unchecked, then click the Apply button and the OK button. To do anything to a file, right-click it (put the cursor on the item then click the right mouse button) and you will get a drop-down list of options. Did you know? If a file is a program (an "executable, usually with the extesion .EXE) you can run it by selecting Open on the drop down list, or just by double clicking the filename. Depending on what the file is, you may open it the same way, for instance a .DOC file will open in Word.
