Opening a DOS Window

Sometimes instructions we give need direct access to the Trademaster folder (directory). The operations can often be carried using Windows Explorer but occansionally you need to open a DOS window and use DOS commands. To start a DOS session do this:

On the desktop, click on Start (bottom left), then Run and in the Run dialog type in: COMMAND (in upper or lower case) then click on OK. You will get a DOS window. If you don't, you might be running an old Windows version, try CMD instead of COMMAND. One of these will work. You will then usually need to get to the Trademaster folder.

In the DOS window, switch to your TM2 directory. For the local drive (on the computer you are at) the command is usually: CD\TM2 and press enter. Check that prompt shows as C:\TM2>.

If Trademaster is on a network drive, type in the required network drive letter and a colon as in: G: and press enter. This might put you in the TM2 directory, or you might need to change folder as in: CD APPS\TM2 [enter], depending on where TM2 actually is). You can see where the Trademaster folder is by running the program. It appears in the pane to the right of the Main Menu, where it says "Directory".

You may also need to refer to our fact sheet "Locating the TM2 Directory", faq00003.html.
