Installing Trademaster on another Computer
Your Trademaster license allows to to run Trademaster 2 on as many machines as you like within the one business. IntroductionIn order to copy Trademaster to a new machine you will need to copy the entire contents of the present Trademaster folder (directory). You can simply copy the complete folder across a netowrk. If you have access to a CD-Writer you can copy the folder to a blank CD, then copy it from the CD to the new machine. For further assistance with this phone us on 01273 278171. However sometimes the only possible method is to transfer the programs and data using floppy disks as detailed below. To install TM2 on a Winows NT, 2000 or XP machine you will need administrator priviledges. Trademaster is often installed on the local drive (C) and these instructions cover the case of copying programs and data from a local drive on one machine and re-installing them on the local drive of a new machine. The procedure for copying from or to a network location is similar, only the folder location is different, but please phone 07802 420466 for support if you need it. You can see where Trademaster is currently located by running the existing Trademaster. On versions of Trademaster 2.06.30 or later, if you load a current data set and display the Main Menu, the window on the right shows the location of Trademaster against "Directory". If it is not located on a local drive make a note of this location. Copying using a CDCopy the TM2 folder and the files that are in it on to a blank CD. Nothing else is needed. Then simply use Windows Explorer on the other machine to copy the folder to the location you require. Set up a desktop icon on the new machine. Copying using Floppy DisksYou will require a number of blank, formatted floppy disks for this. It is not possible to be specific as to how many, but 3 to 5 is normal and 10 should be enough for even the heaviest user. Before copying, you should ensure your present Variance period has been processed, and all reports printed. The procedure is best carried out from the DOS prompt. Close any programs that are running, including Trademaster. Click on Start, then Run and in the Run dialog type in COMMAND (upper or lower case will do) then click on OK. You will get a DOS window. Type in this command: CD\TM2 and press enter. The prompt should show as C:\TM2>, check that this is the case. It is helpful, but not essential to first remove redundant working files by typing in these three commands: DOCDEL and press enter, then press the space bar at the prompt. DEL *.$$$ press enter. DEL TM2AC*.DAT [enter] (This deletes any back office data transfer files). Put one floppy disk in the drive and type this in: COPY PKUNZIP.EXE A: [enter]. Remove this disk and label it "A". Put another floppy disk in the drive and type this in: PKZIP -&f A:TMCOPY *.* [enter]. Use upper and lower case as shown. There will be series of messages indicating files are being copied. When the disk is full there will be a message "Insert Disk #2 - Press a key when ready". Take out the disk and label it Disk 1. Put another disk in the drive and press the space bar. Continue the process labelling each disk as it is used, until the DOS prompt appears again, indicating the process is complete. Close the DOS window by clicking the cross in the top right corner. Re-Installing from Floppy DisksTake the disks to the new computer. On this machine, Click on Start, then Run and in the Run dialog type in COMMAND (upper or lower case will do) then click on OK. You will get a DOS window. Type in CD\ [enter], the DOS prompt will show as C:\>. Make sure this is the case. To create a Trademaster directory, type in: MD TM2 [enter]. (If the directory already exists you will see an error message.) Then type in CD TM2 [enter], the DOS prompt will now show C:\TM2>. Make sure this is the case. With Disk A in the drive type this in: COPY A:*.* [enter]. You will see the message: 1 file(s) copied. Put the last disk you used when copying files in the drive and type in this command: PKUNZIP -O A:TMCOPY [enter]. (That is a capital letter O after the hyphen, not a zero.) You will see a message "Insert Disk #1 - Press a key when ready". Insert Disk 1 in the drive and press the space bar. Messages will indicate that various files are being copied. When all files have been installed, there will be a message "Insert Disk #2 - Press a key when ready". Change disks and press the space bar. Repeat with further disks until all disks have been processed. Final Check and SetupInstallation on the new machine is now complete. If the new installation is exacly as the old one, say if a machine is replaced, no setup should be needed. If the network location has been changed, you may need to change the data drive designation, please refer to data sheet faq00016.html, Changing the Trademaster Data Drive To check that installation has been properly carried out, at the DOS prompt type in TM [enter]. Trademaster should now run. Close the DOS window when you are finished by clicking the cross in the top right corner. Install a desktop icon for Trademaster. If you are using a differeant printer you will need to set this up. If it is a dot matrix printer you may need to reconfigure the printer settings in Trademaster. Please phone for advice. If a USB printer, please refer to "Using a USB printer" on the Support Home Page. Finally, set up an icon on the new machine. NOTE: If you deleted any data transfer files as instructed you will need to regenerate the data for the current period if you need to reprocess that period. Caution! It can be very confusing to have two versions of Trademaster in use so if you are simply transferring Trademaster to a different machine it is recommended you delete the old Trademaster installation once you are sure that the new installation is functioning correctly. You should retain the old files for at least one month. When ready, use Windows Explorer to remove the original TM2 folder and also delete any desktop icons. If you intend to run TM2 on a laptop when when away from the office, you must be very careful to synchronise the data between the two machines. Please ask for advice on how to do this.
